A product I’m intrigued towards

Biodegradable & Compostable Corn Starch Carry Bags – Towards making myself aware of more and more ways to reduce the waste we humans create, I recently stumbled on a product.

Plastic bags are one of the major things which affect me personally. So while searching for options, I found out these corn-starch carry bags which are biodegradable & even compostable.

Probably there are better options out there, but this is what I found and finding still better than a normal plastic carry.

A lens I’m finding fascinating —

Moment Anamorphic Lens – When I got to know about the anamorphic lens. It straight up blew my mind. So this is how the bigshot movie sequences with those amazing night time lens flares and super-wide shots are being created.

But these lenses are super expensive.

So while searching for an alternative. I found a company called Moment makes the lens for phones. They are the industry leaders (almost) in this area. I later learned that they too make an Anamorphic lens. The coolest thing is they make a case as well which has a standard M-series mount interface with a simple twist-and-lock design (logically similar to a standard lens mount on a DSLR camera but for mobile) and these phone mounts are accepted by many other mobile case design companies in their own designs as well.

Here is where you can buy the case and the lens – Moment Store.

The below video showcases what an anamorphic lens looks like and what it can shoot –

A travel article I enjoyed —

Bullet Climbing Mount Fuji – Mount Fuji, the perfectly spherical volcano. Many of the travellers of it on their bucket list, myself included.

There are two ways you can climb it, one is 2 days climb which has a rest in between the climb and another one is climbing through the night and making it to the summit in the early morning around 4 AM. Found this amazing article on the second way of climbing “Bullet climbing Mount Fuji”.

In case it’s in your bucket list too. Check it out, it may be useful.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –

A service I’m intrigued towards

FluidStack – In simple terms – FluidStack is like An AirBnB for Computers.

Rent your desktop when you aren’t using it. This helps the world recycle and re-use the computing infrastructure the world already has. Such a brilliant idea. This is like democracy in the computer Infrastructure as well.

It pays up to $50 a month. But as far I checked it’s more dependant on your Internet Upload speed. So 10MBPS ~ $5 a month, 100MBPS ~ $10 a month and so on. So it would be fine to put in a sitting machine as a node on FluidStack. But buying a new machine and then putting it as a node may not be a good idea.

As per their site – They aggregate your computers into our distributed cloud, accelerating content delivery, scientific research, and enterprise computing.

Here’s the link to their FAQ section, If you have any questions. I certainly had.

A brilliant Idea I found on Reddit —

Red and Gray Baskets at Shopping Complex! – Remember when you go to the mall and are mobbed by the high-end perfume or other kind of brands executives coming to you with their offer to help you buy something which you don’t even want?

This solution implemented at a Mall solves this problem.

If you get the red basked from the counter, they’ll behave as usual and come to you in case you are curious and want assistance.

If you get the gray basket, that means it’s a DnD kind of signal and no executive will trouble you.

I hope every mall or shopping complex develop this into their infra as the first checklist item.

A short film I’m loved —

A fascinating short Time Loop Movie – Found this short movie on Omeleto channel. The protagonist is going through time loops, again and again, to save his brother from his death.

Amazing how the story, direction and editing creates a fascinating movie which moves you even in a shorter format.

A service I’m excited about

Google Fi – Formerly known as Project Fi, Google Fi aims to provide a multifaceted solution to Mobile Network Coverage and Plans.

To make it more understandable – On Joining Google Fi service your device (Fi compatible – most Nexus or Pixel devices) will have access to not only one but three networks and it will automatically connect to the fastest one available. Plus whenever a faster Fi secured WiFi network is available, it will use that to connect you to the network. Plus you can go to other countries as well and easily use Google Fi to connect to the fastest network available there.

The second feature of this is the layer of security you get to prevent you from social engineering attacks.

The article I shared below (3rd point today) on digital security, talks about this service in details, so read that as well.

As of now, in India, the Google Fi is quite expensive (around $70 a month for a user). But hopefully, they’ll bring it down to a reasonable level ($10-20 a month) as Indian markets are already flooded with cheap networks.

Nonetheless, a smart service from Google to look forward to.

An article I found fascinating —

Great Article on Security with Security keys (advance digital security) – If you have a mobile phone, you already have a vast digital life which is knitted in dangerous situations more than we know and think. This article goes to lengths to talk about the dangers and how to prevent them or deal with them if we are exposed to them.

For example – Using a physical security key on your device or using a password manager religiously.

There is a lot to learn from this article and apply immediately to our digital lives.

A video guide I found immediately useful —

A Conversation I really loved

How to Cram 2 Months of Learning into 1 Day – This conversation on The Tim Ferriss show really got me hooked. Josh Waitzkin, who is the author of The Art of Learning and also is an eight-time US National Chess Champion and has many more medallions under his belt, shared a lot of insights and mind-boggling stuff. Things which might sound impossible to normal humans, this guy does those things.

This episode was a roller coaster ride. Amazing listen.

Check out this conversation video –

An audiobook I absolutely loved —

11.22.63 By Stephen King and narrated by Craig Wasson – After I listened to my first audiobook “The Graveyard Book”, I was thirsty for more. Then I saw this Stephen King book on audible while exploring the gazillion books. I didn’t notice what I was going to undertake. This book is massive. In a book version, it’s a 700 pager book and the audiobook is almost 30+ hours long.

But when I started listening to it, I couldn’t stop. I consistently listened to this book for almost 20 days, in my morning commute and many times in my evening commute as well.

I got to live through the old United States era where JFK was still alive. From the mobile phone era, the protagonist is transported via time travelling to the JFK era to stop his murder.

A fascinating book which left me wanting for more. A great listen.

A podcast episode I found really interesting —

Jerry Colonna — The Coach With the Spider Tattoo – In this episode, Tim Ferriss talks to Jerry Colonna who is the CEO and co-founder of Reboot.io, an executive coaching and leadership development firm dedicated to the notion that better humans make better leaders.

In this episode, even Tim shared his vulnerability and willingness to explore his personal challenges on the podcast. You can really understand how to actually apply these ideas and even understand them in the first place.

This was a great listen.

A newly gained piece of knowledge (disgusting but true)

Skunk Spray – This is something I didn’t know and learned very recently. That a skunk (a cat-sized American mammal) can spray from its bottom/anal glands for his protection. Skunks are like nature’s stink bomb.

Disgusting but true.

It was a good listen.

A book I loved —

Let Your Life Speak – Listening for the Voice of Vocation By Parker J. Palmer – This Audio book shares the idea of how to let your inner voice guide you to discover your true vocation. It’s a quick read (I finished this book in just 2 sittings) but very though provoking. Surely recommend to read it.

Here are the links – Audiobook | Kindle | Print (Hardcover)

Joe Rogan podcast episode with Elon Musk – This was I think the epitome of any podcast made ever. The Tony Stark of our times – Elon Musk and the greatest podcast of our time – Joe Rogan. Big Magic – Creative Living Beyond Fear (Written) by – Elizabeth Gilbert —

I stumbled upon this book while watching a YouTube video. I knew this author – Elizabeth Gilbert who had earlier written – “Eat, Pray, Love“.
