Top 5 most loved posts of 2018

2018 was a good year with few milestone moments. My Interview podcast series was finally off the ground. Even though I did less normal blog posts but my regular Saturday-Pentacle post (Best 5 things of past week) which I did regularly was loved by the readers.

So I thought it would be awesome to compile a list of my top 5 most loved posts of 2018 apart from Saturday-Pentacle. For one reason or another, the posts below are the ones which were most loved (i.e. engagement rate was high).

Hope you enjoy this recap and find something useful inside these post.

A product I’m using again –

Coffee for Athletes, 100% Premium Arabica Coffee with Isomaltulose – I am loving this coffee from unived again. In between, I stopped drinking coffee (any type of coffee) but I’m trying it out again. I make this coffee by the filter coffee method but without the milk and use Stevia as the sweetener sometimes.

An 80s movie I loved  —

The Breakfast Club (1985) – I recently stumbled upon this 80s movie and found out that critics consider it among the greatest films of all time (Source). This is a comedy-drama and the main theme of the film is the constant struggle of the American teenager to be understood, by adults and by themselves. I’m sure It’s gonna be worth your time if you watch.

Here is the trailer of this movie –

A song I loved —

Holocene by Bon Iver  – This is one of my favourite band’s (Bon Iver) song. One comment in this song (on YouTube) made me listen to it. I think this comment sums it up, why you should listen to this song. Here it is as quoted –

“This is the perfect example of a song I cannot listen to without my eyes getting watery. Whether Im thinking of those I miss…or thinking of those I’m grateful to still have with me, I just CAN’T listen to this without getting emotional. I love the song but it is very sad to me…because even when it makes me think of everyone I’m happy to have with me, and I’m appreciative, I quickly think of how nothing lasts forever and we have to seize the moment, and that truly saddens me. I sure do hope they’re is a Heaven, because I cannot bare the thought of never seeing the faces I love so much again. It’s pretty amazing to think with all the technology and medicine we have…and as far as this human race has come, death will always be a mystery. They’re has to be a reason for that….I mean it’s not like we remember anything before we were born, and they’re were centuries of humans evolving, and RIGHT NOW we are alive in a time where we have good music like this, internet to connect us, and all sorts of inventions and progressions we have gained over the thousands of years…but here we are still hoping they’re is a Heaven, JUST so we can be with those we love forever. Yeah sadly this song makes me think too deep about what we all must face, and all this love I have for humans and animals…I still can’t understand how or why ANYONE would ever choose to pick up a gun and kill.”

A bird I learned about –

Picture By Richard BartzOwn work, CC BY-SA 3.0, Link

Atlantic puffin – It’s a seabird with a brightly coloured beak during the breeding season. They feed primarily by diving in the water. What makes the above pictured puffin is that it’s the only puffin who is native to the Atlantic Ocean.

This puffin has a black crown and back, pale grey cheek patches and white underparts. Its broad, boldly marked red and black beak and orange legs contrast with its plumage. One more characteristc to make it special is that It moults (means releasing some body parts like snake leaves it’s skin) while at sea in the winter and some of the bright-coloured facial characteristics are lost, with color returning again during the spring.

A song I’m going back to —

Oceans by Seafret – This song is close to my heart since the day i heard it in mid of 2015. And if you are wondering, yes! the girl in this video is Maisie Williams who played Arya Stark from The Game of Thrones series. This song is beautiful.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –  [Found it in the pre-roll (00:01:56) of the movie – The Breakfast Club ]

David Bowie
“…And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations.
They’re quite aware of what they’re going through…”

A place I’m thinking to visit  —

Arunachal Pradesh – I’d love to make my way to East India. Ride on that easternmost road of India and Meeting the forest man of India. This amazing state is the northeastern-most state of the country. It borders the states of Assam and Nagaland to the south and shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and is separated from China in the north by the disputed McMahon Line. Itanagar is the capital of the state.

A song I can’t stop listening to —

Apocalypse – Cigarettes After Sex – Close your eyes, imagine yourself riding under an open sky listening to this. Yeah. That’s it.

Something I’m contemplating —

Life is like a bike ride. You have to take the risk and get out of your comfort zone sometimes to race ahead in your life. But sometimes your intuition tells you if you took over that dangerously speeding vehicle you may risk everything. Is it worth it? Never is. Never will be. So slow down and relax your ego. Move forward not upwards!

Person I’m fascinated with —

Bijay Nair – He is an Author, Ex-Armed Forces guy, a runner, a Motivational Speaker, a Husband and a Father. What fascinates me is the thin line he walks and still balances all these aspects of life. His writing has a punch of humour and he rocks it on the Facebook groups. Truly an inspiration.

A song I’ve been listening to —

Tum Jab Paas by Prateek Kuhad – Loved this song’s composition and the music video both.

Person I’m fascinated with –

Elvis Presley – I love his music since long. But the power of his personality was so damn high. You can just take that into perspective by the fact that in 1956, Elvis received his polio vaccination on national TV. His appearance helped raise immunization levels in the US from 0.06% to 80% in just 6 months.

Here is one of his song I love.

Art I ‘m loving in the past week  —

The Japanese art of Origami – The small number of basic origami folds can be combined in a variety of ways to make intricate designs. The best-known origami model is the Japanese paper crane.

Here is a video of the making of Japanese paper crane –

Micro Succulent plants – I’ve been pondering over these micro plants, which can be grown in small glass tubes or even inside a cork or a wine bottle. I bought one some time ago for my desk but unfortunately, it died due to my lack of its maintenance knowledge. I’m contemplating to buy a few new ones.

An art form which brought back nostalgia

Thanjavur – Look at the below painting, how it gives you feel of real texture and a sort of realness to the whole picture. Having been brought up in an Indian family, I’ve seen these paintings around. But I never knew it was an art form in itself. Which is called Thanjavur or Tanjore, originated in South India in 1600 AD.

You can recognise a Thanjavur painting by its use of gold foil, that’s what gives it glitters and lends the painting a surreal look.
