A recipe I recently cooked –

Photo – Piping Pot Curry

Vegetable Rice Pulao / Pilaf – Instant Pot Pressure Cooker – I recently cooked this meal at home and damn it was spicy, we cried tears eating this and laughed hard, knowing that this is making us cry. But it was super delicious. Nothing crazy but simple meal.

Person I ‘m fascinated with  —

Tony Hawk – This is the legendery skate boarder Tony Hawk. I grew up playing his video games. It’s like following and loving this guy from 20 years. (Ah that makes me feel old!)

A song running frequently in my playlist —

Candy Paint by Post Malone – I’ve been loving the songs Post Malone have been putting out. Man! That guy is crazy but  consistent with his songs. He have produced 100s of songs since his debut in December of 2016.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –

“You might not make it to the top, but if you are doing what you love, there is much more happiness there than being rich or famous.”

— Tony Hawk

Book I’m re-visting –

Oliver Twist – Re-visting the classic since few days.

This book has the sarcasm of Dickens, which makes this book very humorous. Dickens’ exposes the state of the poor in English society by following the life of an orphaned boy, Oliver Twist. The poor child can’t seem to catch a break and when he does it is short lived enough to seem cruel. But eventually the book is sad overall. However a good classic read.

Person I ‘m fascinated with  —

Alex Honnold – Yes! that’s the same person who did the first ever free solo done by any human on El Capitan’s nearly 3,000 feet of vertical granite wall. Free soloing is when it’s done without the safety gear on and alone. Yes that means no rope. Just thinking about it makes my hands sweat.

A short I found interesting —

Why We’re All So Anxious – This video from The school of life talks about the fundamentals of anxiety and why it may not be as bad.

Book I’m reading –

THINK STRAIGHT: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life – This is the book from one of the new age non-fiction writers I look up to – Darius Foroux. As it feels from the title, it’s kind of a self-help book about thinking. This subject is very close to my heart as well, as at the core I find myself as a student and a teacher at the same time. You can only become both of these if you learn and then know how to think! A good read.

A band I’m fascinated with  —

The Yellow Diary – This band has a special place in my heart, as the bassist of this band is my friend Stuart DaCosta and I’ve seen this band from the time of its formation and them growing up into this phenomenal team. Now they are signed by Sony India.

If you want to start listening to them I’ll recommend two songs – Sada and Kashmir.

A song I’m loving —

Kashmir – This song is from the Yellow Diary and I’m fascinated with it from the past week.

A product I’m loving – (If you are not interested in audio equipment in general, you can skip to the next point)

Zoom H6 – This is a field audio recorder I bought it lately for recording my podcast episodes. Before buying this my audio recording workflow was just a mess, but now after buying this and one audio software (which I will cover next time), my workflow has become much more streamlined and I’m able to produce audio recordings of professional quality.

Few things I’m loving about it –

  1. The mobility – The ease of taking it anywhere means I can go to my guest’s place and record with ease knowing quality would still be good.
  2. Ability to use 6 mics at once with it – well I don’t know when I’ll need to record 6 people at once but even recording more than one person (let’s say a couple) gives me so much liberty and peace of mind.
  3. Ability to use it as an audio interface – This is an easter egg, I can even use this field audio recorder as a static audio interface with my computer. It works like magic. For people who don’t know what audio interface is – It is a medium to connect professional quality mics which cannot be connected directly to a computer (mics with XLR ports etc).

All In all, I’m just loving this product since the day I bought it. If you are into Audio I’m sure you’ll love it too.

A Book I ‘m looking forward to read  —

The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni – This book was recommended a few months back by one of my reader friends and just yesterday someone posted this book one of my book clubs on Facebook. So finally I put this in my reading list for 2019.

This book primarily traces Panchaali’s (wife of five Pandava brothers from the Mahabharat) life, this is half history, half myth and everything in between.

An article I’m pondering upon  —

This Timeless And Boldly Optimistic Idea Could Change Your Life – This article from Ryan Holiday looks like a piece from his book “The obstacle is the way” and it tells stories of three men in history who even in adverse condition saw an opportunity and moulded it into their own benefit. Ryan is known to follow stoicism as a guiding line in his life and this article shares the story of where he started this from. It was the book – Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. A good read.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –  (from the today’s article)

“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

— Marcus Aurelius

Why most of the humans need to learn the real meaning of Feminism!

Photo by Nicole Adams on Unsplash

Many of my friends are strong women which include not only the women who have gone against the wind and in many ways have conquered whatever field they have gone to, but also the women who stay at home and make a house – home. Both kinds of women do different things but they are strong in their own respective ways.

While talking to these women, frequently (knowingly or unknowingly) the word Feminism comes up every now and then. In earlier times when I didn’t know what this word actually meant, whenever I would hear the word feminism or feminist, an image used to come up of women who were always protesting over gender inequality. Which is true in its literary sense but honestly, it didn’t always excite me. At that time It used to feel like femme was a different race altogether. But after a decade of staying away from my home in an old little town, reading 100s of books and articles and talking and debating to these strong women in my life, the persona of feminism word has changed in its entirety.

Person I’m fascinated with –

Jimmy Chin – To me he is mostly unreal. I mean the things he does. Doing photography at places one wouldn’t even think about and dare. He is a mountain climber himself. He did ‘Free Solo’ (which is shared as the 4th bullet below) documentary with his wife.

A documentary I’m looking forward to watch —

I’m looking forward to watching this one. Even watching the trailer gave me goosebumps. Here is the official text from the trailer –

From award-winning documentary filmmaker E. Chai Vasarhelyi and world-renowned photographer and mountaineer Jimmy Chin, comes FREE SOLO, a stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of free soloist climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream: climbing the face of the world’s most famous rock… the 3,200ft El Capitan in Yosemite National Park… without a rope –

Post of the week –

An awesome Bicycle product which my friend recommended

64 LED Bicycle Lazer Tail Light Wireless Remote MTB Bike Night Riding Turning Lamp Signal Safety Flashlight — I got the recommendation of this product from one of my Cycling group friends, It’s super awesome, It can be used to remotely indicate if you are going left or right. One more awesome feature is that it provides a Lazer trail on both sides which mark a line on both sides while you are riding a bike, It makes it super easy for others on the road to notice that a cyclist is riding. I’m looking forward to buy this one shortly.

What I’ve been listening to   —

Masters of Scale Podcast – Especially the episode with Arianna Huffington (Founder of The Huffington Post, Thrive Global)

In this episode, Reid Hoffman (Founder of LinkedIn) talks to Arianna Huffington (Founder of The Huffington Post, Thrive Global). Arianna talks about a very important aspect of running the business – Learning when and how to recharge. She also talks about how she dramatically scaled the Huffington Post — and then experienced profound burnout. She now leads Thrive Global, which scales the idea of balance across an organisation. Really great podcast episode.

What I’m been watching —

Famous MKBHD on Hot Ones show By First We Feast (on YouTube)

This is an amazing show where the host Sean Evans makes their guest eat Chicken Wings and in some cases vegan wings (when guests are vegan or vegetarian) but the speciality of these wings is that they are dabbed with Spicy and super hot sauces and then he talks to them about their lives with all these interesting questions while their face is on fire. Really interesting.

Post of the week —

A private messaging app I’m experimenting with

Signal

There are several services offering private messaging but Signal is one app which I’m trying after experimenting with Telegram. It offers free, end-to-end encryption for both messages and private calls. Importing thing to mention is that It’s also recommended by Edward Snowden (remember Snowden? The CIA guy who revealed NSA’s global surveillance) and renowned security expert Bruce Schneier, among others.

An amazing Instagram account I’ve been following — NITCH

Don’t know why this never showed up in my recommended pages follow list on Instagram. This amazing Insta page profiles the classic stars in pure B&W. Found so many unseen images of my favourite stars. This page is inspiring and sort of a classic eye candy.

Article I’m pondering on  —

How to Live Without Google — After all these big companies being accused of misusing our data for ads and even for political reasons. I want to try and break out of this vicious circle. Living without Facebook would be rather easy but Living without Google? I never thought I can go back to living without Google as we are so much into their digital eco-system. We use Google Chrome as our browser, Google Drive to sync our files and Gmail as our mailing client (however my main mail of choice is Outlook from ages, but still). You get it right? We are almost slaves to Google. We think we use their services free. But it’s never really free. It’s always compensated with your personal data. But then I found an alternate search engine called ‘DuckDuckGo’ (don’t go on the weird name) and that changed quite a lot of things for me. This particular article suggests how we can live without all things Google without compensation.

What I’ve been watching —

Emotional Release from 10 years of Back Pain

This is gonna be weird that I’m sharing a video showing a doctor sharing his process of releasing a patient from back pain but for unknown reasons it’s relaxing as well. You should watch this entire video and you’ll probably get to know what I’m saying. This doctor is a legit chiropractor, I’ve verified that, and literally, he’s like a magician.

Article I’m pondering on  —

“The Art of Intimacy. What it takes to be less lonely.”

This article explores the real meaning of the word ‘Loneliness’. So thoughtfully written that I would like to quote a line from this piece –

“Loneliness isn’t feeling like you don’t really know anybody. It’s feeling like nobody could ever really know you.”

What I’ve been listening to
