An App I’m loving –

Microsoft Launcher

If you use an Android Phone, the stock launcher is good. But I recently found out the launcher app designed by Microsoft and it has come a long way, It’s neat and provides a good number of functions which the normal launcher app doesn’t have. 3 key features which make it superior to the Android Default launcher:-

  1. Performance is super fluid and buttery smooth even on mid-range Android Phones.
  2. It has a Recent activities widget which shows you any kind of notifications or any activity happened on any app as a list, which is super handy for a quick glance over what’s going on.
  3. Customisation options to make your home screen a little bit unique in a subtle way, not so much fancy but better options than the default launcher.

If you want to download it on your Android device, click here.

A shocking fact I learned recently – It’s about Google Photos App/Service from Google. I use this cloud based photo service everyday to share my photos with family and friends assuming that the photos which we stare with certain people are completely private. But I learned very recently that It’s not the case, any photo which you share as an album are created with a public link, if someone has that public link, they can see you pictures without any login or authorisation in Google without you giving them access. It’s scary and it’s something which broke my trust in some ways with Google. I discussed this matter on Google’s Photos related forums online but I was amazed to see many people didn’t know this and were shocked too. But Google is not doing anything about it right now, probably because it is not there priority right now. I think it should be their first priority to fix privacy of their proprietary software/app. Just imagine a hacker searching the Public URLs of our Google Photos app somehow finds one actual link and is able to access our photos without us knowing. That will be a nightmare.
I’m searching for an alternative to this app right now and I couldn’t find any as of yet. But hopefully Google fixes it, otherwise we all will have to eventually remove our photos from Google’s cloud servers and delete this app.

App of the week –

Disk Drill

This is a data recovery app, recently due to power failure one of my external harddrive stopped showing one of my backup folders which contained all the backups of my devices. Loosing it would have been a big crisis. While searching for a data recovery tool, I found Disk Drill app for Mac. I Installed it and it started showing all the deleted data which I could recover, from the day one of the drive. If you are in that kind of situation, try it once it will just blow your mind.

It’s available both for Windows and Mac on their website.

Book I’m re-listening  —

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – I’m listening to this book for the second time on Audible. It’s one of the very good fiction books I have ever read, apart from the story and characters, Neil Gaiman who has written this book has also narrated this book in his own voice, does a mind-blowing job. He takes you to a completely different world the of the dead, the ghouls and the witches which is not actually spooky. If you want to get away from your world and problems for sometime, listen to this book while driving car or commuting to work, this book will be worth you time.

How Tim Ferriss Survived Suicidal Depression and His Tools for Warding Off the Darkness – This article is a story of one of my favorite writers where he tells about his story of dark days when he almost committed suicide and how an incident helped him out to get out of that zone and the tools he used to stay away from that zone.

An intimate story, I think every person should read who is going through difficult times. It teaches a great lesson. To quote Tim in a very powerful sentence – “Killing yourself is like taking your pain, multiplying it by 10, and giving it to the ones who love you.”

It was lit like cool day light. White! But one could tell where the walls met in this white room.

She was standing in the center of the floor. She closed her eyes.

The room drifted into darkness, it wasn’t white anymore.

After a few minutes she gasped and took a deep breathe while opening her eyes. hhhhhhh!

Person I ‘m fascinated with  —

Elon Musk – He is the founder of some of the revolutionary companies like SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink and The boring company. Before that, he was one of the founders of PayPal which eBay acquired and gave him a wealth of US$ 165 Millions. Right now Elon’s net worth is US$20.2 billion (source).

He is like real life Iron Man. Has the mind of an engineer and a problem solver. I’m just fascinated with how he is executing all of his plans. Mainly it is because he has the money now and a bunch of teams working for him round the clock but still as an individual how much he is accomplishing is almost superhuman.

A new gadget in my wishlist —

A gadget to make your dumb airconditioner smart – I’m fascinated with all things automation, so while doing research on new (home) automation products. I stumbled upon this gadget which can connect your old split or window ac (basically any ac with an infrared remote) with your wifi and hence you can control it from anywhere. You can also do geofencing with it. So that if you come in the radius of certain meters of your house it automatically can turn on the AC and vice versa.

While coming back from Nashik, we took a detour through the mountain valley accidently.
.
There were mountain capes all around the road. But the most amazing thing which happened was the river we found flowing through these mountains and almost 400 meters away from the road we were on.
.
It was a scene almost out of a filmic landscape. Mountains in the backdrop and the river and the riverbank in the front.
.
Riverbank was soft. But we could stand over it.
.
Right before the road there were these flowers grown from near the rock. Almost like dandelions but they weren’t.
.
Then we were back to the car and off we started back to our path.

Detour!
