What am I watching —

13 Reasons Why – I binged on this series in past few weeks and finished whole 2 seasons in 3-4 sittings. From the outlook, it may look like a high school drama, but trust me its not. It’s much deeper than that. It’s story of a high school sophmore Hannah Baker who commits suicide and leaves behind 13 reasons why she did what she did. It distrubed me in many ways, it shook me in many ways. It forced me to re-think my whole high school life. If you are weak hearted, it may not be appropriate for you. But if you are not, this is a must watch.

This Is Why The GenerationZ Is Smarter Than The Millennials

Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

Who is GenerationZ?

GenerationZ consists of those born in 1995 or later. As per a 2017 media research report, the GenerationZ is 26% of the total audience overall and the Millennials are now trailing behind at 22% of the total audience.

Just so it’s clear:
A “Millennial” is a person reaching young adulthood around the year 2000.
Generation Z also known as Post-Millennials is the demographic cohort following the Millennials.

Here is a graph from that report –

Source – THE NIELSEN TOTAL AUDIENCE REPORT: Q1 2017

A few weeks back when I went for one of my long morning walks, I was passing by a bunch of kids in the joggers’ park. Kids who were in the age spectrum of 7-9 year old. One of those kids were having a cell phone, which looked like a good 10000 bucks phone to me, was talking to someone. I didn’t mean eavesdropping. But I could hear that small boy asking her girlfriend, “Hey baby, where are you? I’ve been waiting for you for half an hour, are you coming or should I go with my boys for a ride.”

My reaction to this was, “WTF” in my mind. I was standing there for a while before I could continue my walk.

What am I watching —

Made in Mékhé – This is the story of a women entrepreneur Magatte Wade. She was born in Senegal (A country in West Africa) but spent much of her childhood in France. Growing up, she saw the extreme differences in wealth between Africa and Europe. This disparity sparked a question… Why are some countries rich, and others poor?

She found a cosmetics company skinisskin and manufacturing it in providing Mékhé, Senegal. Amazing story.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –

“You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet, still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.”

Article I’ve been pondering upon —

My Powerful 1-Hour Routine For Quick Success On Medium – If you are a writer, this is a great article to start working on the Medium platform and how you can succeed there. Real legit article with actual insight from someone who actually has achieved success. In this article, the author refers to Parkinson’s law which is often mentioned by Tim Ferriss (one of my favourite persons) –

“Parkinson’s Law dictates that a task will swell in (perceived) importance and complexity in relation to the time allotted for its completion. If I give you 24 hours to complete a project, the time pressure forces you to focus on execution, and you have no choice but to do only the bare essentials.”

Person I’ve been pondering upon —

People Who Have “Too Many Interests” Are More Likely To Be Successful According To Research – Even though many of our cultures say that ‘jack of all and master of none’ is being a generalist. However it’s not perceived to be good. Like chinese people say – “Equipped with knives all over, yet none is sharp,”. But still the most impactful individuals , both contemporary and historical, have been generalists: Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Richard Feynman, Ben Franklin, Thomas Edison. But i think in modern world, it’s not about jack of all and master of none. It’s almost reaching to the point of virtual master of all. This is an interesting read Michael Simmons. Check it out.

Book I’ve been reading this week —

Futurist in the Present: a Book About Art, Design & Life – Got the reference of this book from Darius Foroux (one of my favourite writers), this book is from Dani Foroux (Darius’s brother), it’s an interesting book as Dani designed a Shoe called ‘Sofia’ and this book is like the booklet of the whole process of Shoe design and the way he approached it and his design philosophy etc. I can say it’s interesting to read what goes on in a designer’s head while creating or designing. A good read.

What am I watching —

Saṃsāra – A short film that blew my mind cause it’s shot in one of my favourite places on this planet – ‘Benares’ and it brought back the whole feeling of being in ‘Benares’. Beautifully shot, specially the time lapses and the amazing transformation shots of Taj Mahal and other monuments.

Person I’ve been pondering upon —

Ken Burns – I knew this name when I started making short movies in Apple iMovie on my iPhone. Ken Burns is an effect, where you can put life into still images by slowly zooming into them and panning. However I didn’t know it’s actually dedicated name to an actual person. Ken Burns, who is a renowned Filmmaker. He often used this effect to make still images of historical values, alive. His documentary movies even won Academy Award Nominations. Really fascinating guy.

You can connect with him on Twitter.

What am I listening to —

Love & Hate by Michael Kiwanuka – This song was introduced to me by a colleague. I didn’t like it as much first. But it slowly grew on me.

App of the week –

Runtastic Push-Ups Trainer

Recently when I was trying to get back into strength training mode, I wanted to start with Push-ups, but I got rusty due to not doing pushups from a very long time (almost more than a year). Hence when I wanted to get back to doing 10 to 20 pushups at a time, I downloaded this training app again on my phone, which helped me earlier in doing pushups regularly and reaching 20+ pushups goal in a single go.

This app basically relies on the proximity sensor of your phone and when you do a pushup you have to start the app and keep it under your face or nose and then do the pushup. When you come closer to the screen or even touch it both counts as a pushup. The exciting thing about it is that it has a challenge mode also where you can compete against hundreds of other real people doing the reps.

If I got you curious, you can download it here – Android | iOS.

Article I’ve been pondering upon —

Every successful relationship is successful for the same exact reasons – A really interesting article on relationships. A long but good read with more than a few practical nuggets on relationships. Get a cuppa coffee and read on.

What am I watching — This one is a keeper. Loved this interview of Karlie Kloss with Tim Ferriss. Karlie is amazing and not just with her beauty but with brains too. She runs a programme for 13-18-year-old girls who want to learn how to code. It’s called Kode with Klossy.

I was fascinated with the fact that being a supermodel and a super successful woman at the age of just 25 how amazing her thought process is. She jots down her thoughts on a notebook, churns them into ideas and then executes them one by one. That’s what a do-er do.

A great listen guys. Give it a go.
