A podcast (not mine) I am loving —

New Perceptions by Ben Brown – I’m following Ben Brown from past 3+ years on YouTube as he is one of the initial day Vloggers on YouTube. Even before Casey Neistat (who shot up to fame with his Vlogs). But Ben’s journey has been really different than Casey. Ben is kind of a creative who is really conscious about what work he puts out and where he needs to stop. After his successful time on YouTube, he kind of struggled with uploading daily videos and that’s when all hell broke loose. People started calling him out for not putting out daily videos. That’s when he really struggled, then last year he got into a motorcycle accident and broke his elbow. That’s when he got some downtime, he could finally stop and reflect on everything going on around him. He unfriended many so-called friends, even got out of a relationship which was not working, got away from being a YouTuber. When this podcast came out a while ago I immediately subscribed to it as I respect his work and his creative process. You should go and check out this podcast, it’s not a very structured one, but if you are a creative and like to listen to stories of other creatives and their process. This is a good one. Don’t get annoyed for the low volume levels in initial episodes, as he was trying podcasting for the first time and I can relate to it as it’s a good amount of work to put out a podcast. Click the link above (or here) to listen to it.

A Movie I Loved —

Gully Boy – Last weekend I watched this amazing movie directed by ace bollywood director Zoya Akhtar (who is also credited with Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara). It’s mainly the story of the ghetto hip-hop and Rap scene in Mumbai. How the protagist (played by Ranveer Singh) finds his passion and pursues it against all odds and how the universe comes together to make everything fall in place. (not everything exactly). Many super awesome desi Rap songs in this movie.

Here is the trailer of the movie –

A song I’m frequenting again —

O (Fly On) by Coldplay – I think I heard this track in late 2016. As soon as I heard it, I had a connection. This song is about love and how it appears in your life and then before even you know, it may be gone. But with the hope that love will always fly with you. Just like a flock of a bird hovering above. You just need to look up to the sky. Smile. Listen to it when you are alone with yourself it will make sense.

An eye-opening annual letter from Bill and Melinda Gates – Bill Gates (Founder of Microsoft) and his wife Melinda Gates have devoted their lives from past many years in philanthropy. Mainly working on the very broad impacting issues like reducing the death ratio of kids in developing countries like Africa. Working on diseases like Malaria and HIV. They publish their Annual Letter Every year. I was not aware of these letters until last week I got introduced to it from a YouTube Video. This year’s annual letter talks about 9 surprising facts and situations they found out in the world through their own going philanthropy work. It was eye-opening for me and I’m sure I’ll be putting my mind this year to work out on ideas for the solution of the said problems in the letter. You can read the letter by clicking below image –

A short film I liked –

A date in 2015 — This short film is a hilarious but a bit disturbing take on the not so far off future. Don’t go on the cover of this video (btw which may look like an ad for a condom). The concept and the AI showed in the video is what our current age scientists are targeting.

A new app I’m excited about –

Vine is coming back! What we know about “Byte” – You remember the Vine app right? Where users could share six-second-long looping video clips. It went viral and many Vine creators also went viral leading to success stories. But then on Oct 27 2016, they discontinued the service. But now the founder of Vine Dom Hofmann is launching this spring, 2019. This may break the current viral app TikTok’s market share.

Here is a detailed video from Sam Sheffer of upcoming service –

An article I’m pondering on –

Four Types of Stress and How to Recognize Them – We can’t take away the stress from our lives. So it’s better to learn about it and make the most out of that knowledge. So I recently learned there is more than one type of stress. One is Distress and another is Eustress (got to learn about it from The Four hour work week book). But there is a total of 4 types. The above article talks about the definition of all four.

An interesting story I found on YouTube —

How This Cyclist Hit 184MPH and set the World Record — Denise Mueller-Korenek shattered the previous land-speed record for the fastest human on a bicycle on earth by hitting 184 Miles per hour. Don’t say, Oh C’mon this can’t be done. Look at the process of how this kind of record-setting works it’s fascinating and what she’s done requires daredevil will.

A song I’m listening to while writing —

Time by Hans Zimmer – This is one of my favourite Hans Zimmer songs. This song makes you feel incredibly alive but also terrified at the same time, like you are living in the moment but the time is passing by.

A piece of knowledge I gained –

What Is The Ideal Bike Cadence For You? – I’m an amateur cyclist and learning tricks of the trade with every new day. I’ve heard about this word “Cadence” a lot both in running and cycling. So this was the time I learned more about it to improve on the performance. This article tells a good deal about the bike cadence and what is the ideal. Here is another article which tells more about the running cadence. Found both of them really helpful.

A project which got me curious —

Daisie by “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams – When I heard Maisie talk about her new project on The Kevin Rose Show recently, it caught my eye and made me learn more about it. Her app Daisie is like a new social media app but for creators. You can tune in to the Kevin Rose podcast linked above and learn more about Daisie from this interesting conversation. A quote by Maisie herself from a press conference for Daisie –

Previous to Daisie, success in the creative industries was wholly dependent on luck and ‘ins’ to the industry. Daisie introduces a new way into the creative world; through connections made organically and the natural development of your skills, propelling individuals to the next level.

A song playing on my running playlist very frequently  —

Dancing With A Stranger – I think I’ve been running upbeat on this track by Sam Smith and Normani. It immediately became the kind of song you listen on repeat after the first time you listen to it. Surprisingly I saw the YouTube video tagged below just now, even though it’s been running on my Spotify playlist for a week now.

An article I found useful  —

How to Configure Your iPhone to Work for You, Not Against You – We all are caught up in our phones all the time, let it be business or social media. We spend a very good part of our day looking down at our phone screen. This article especially gives a strategy for iPhone users how to be hyper-productive by knowingly reducing distraction and notification clutter. However, most of it can be used by Android users as well. I’m trying this strategy out on my phone as well.

A new technology advancement I’m fascinated about —

Wireless charging over the AirEnergous showcased it’s over the air wireless charging capability in CES 2015, however it didn’t go mainstream because of technical difficulties of that time. But now in the latest CES 2019,  they went to the next level and wireless charging over the air looks more promising now. Look at the video below to learn more about it. I can’t stop thinking about all the possibilities of this technology. Future is already here.

An alternate browser I’m trying out –

Vivaldi – This is also a chromium-based browser. The platform on which Google Chrome and many other browsers are built upon. However, this is much more customizable than Chrome. Vivaldi gives you more control over your history along with many other useful features like grouping similar tabs or taking note in the browser window side by side. Especially the themes are amazing. I’m using a dark theme which brings my work in center stage and almost puts the browser away from being a distraction.

Vivaldi is available for all three major desktop platforms – Windows / Mac / Linux, just go here and download.

An article I found useful  —

The Surprising Benefits of Journaling One Sentence Every Day – I love journaling but it’s difficult to stick to it on a consistent basis. This article provides insight on how it can be made simple as writing just one line each day.

I know the power of journaling or writing down the thoughts on paper. It brings out so many unexpected ideas. Directly or sometimes even indirectly. It makes you align to your goal. Most importantly it makes you aware of your own self and your thoughts. Cause your thoughts are what will make or break you. Good Article by James Clear.

An 80s movie I loved  —

The Breakfast Club (1985) – I recently stumbled upon this 80s movie and found out that critics consider it among the greatest films of all time (Source). This is a comedy-drama and the main theme of the film is the constant struggle of the American teenager to be understood, by adults and by themselves. I’m sure It’s gonna be worth your time if you watch.

Here is the trailer of this movie –

A song I loved —

Holocene by Bon Iver  – This is one of my favourite band’s (Bon Iver) song. One comment in this song (on YouTube) made me listen to it. I think this comment sums it up, why you should listen to this song. Here it is as quoted –

“This is the perfect example of a song I cannot listen to without my eyes getting watery. Whether Im thinking of those I miss…or thinking of those I’m grateful to still have with me, I just CAN’T listen to this without getting emotional. I love the song but it is very sad to me…because even when it makes me think of everyone I’m happy to have with me, and I’m appreciative, I quickly think of how nothing lasts forever and we have to seize the moment, and that truly saddens me. I sure do hope they’re is a Heaven, because I cannot bare the thought of never seeing the faces I love so much again. It’s pretty amazing to think with all the technology and medicine we have…and as far as this human race has come, death will always be a mystery. They’re has to be a reason for that….I mean it’s not like we remember anything before we were born, and they’re were centuries of humans evolving, and RIGHT NOW we are alive in a time where we have good music like this, internet to connect us, and all sorts of inventions and progressions we have gained over the thousands of years…but here we are still hoping they’re is a Heaven, JUST so we can be with those we love forever. Yeah sadly this song makes me think too deep about what we all must face, and all this love I have for humans and animals…I still can’t understand how or why ANYONE would ever choose to pick up a gun and kill.”
