A trick I learned recently  —If you are on a Mac and don’t have the fancy touchbar on your old mac and wondering how to access emojis via keyboard? Just press Control+Command+Space! Voila! You can buy me a double shot espresso. (Now go and read the article below! Probably you don’t really know what an espresso is? No really! Even I didn’t know what it exactly meant except that it sounded cool. Probably you know, but still, read the article for the heck of it!)

Article I’m pondering on —

What Is Espresso?

Like I said above I didn’t know what it meant, until recently. I always thought it’s black coffee, but it’s not. It’s something else. Read on to know.

Article I’m pondering on  —

If There’s No Light At The End Of The Tunnel: QUIT

Quitting is difficult, let it be a job or a relationship or a project which is leading nowhere. The more important part is when to quit, sometimes you just get carried away. This article from Darius goes deep into this topic and “Don’t settle for mediocrity” it suggests. Good Read.

 What am I Listening —

No Diggity / Thrift Shop By Ed Sheeran feat. Passenger

I got introduced to the singer Passenger when Ed Sheeran shared this song long back. I immediately fell in love with this song and listened to it gazzilion times that day onwards. But then it faded away after some years, recently I stumbled upon it and felt like being 5 years younger.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –

A recent purchase worth mentioning –

DOMYOS 100 ADULT SKIPPING ROPE BLACK – I bought this jump rope from the local Decathlon store recently opened in our vicinity. This was just under 200 Rs. ($3) and I’ve been loving it. It is simple but awesome. At the handles the length can be adjusted by couple of inches. I’m able to do over 100 jumps at one go with this. Due to the low profile of handles, I can carry it along anywhere in my travels as well.

An app I’m loving –

Hyperlapse

This is an awesome app made specifically for creating beautiful time-lapse videos. I’ve used it a couple of years ago for the first time and it blew my mind. Buttery smooth Timelapse/Hyperlapse videos. Since then this app is like a good tool in my photo video tool box.

Unfortunately, it’s only available for iPhones. But Microsoft made their own version of the similar application called “Microsoft Hyperlapse”. It does the similar thing on Android devices but I would say the videos made by Hyperlapse by Instagram are far more superior than Microsoft Hyperlapse.

You can download both from here –

Audiobook I’m relistening  —

We learn nothing By Tim Kreider

This book is like listening to your naked self, not just you. All us humans collectively. It’s brutal, unapologetic but at the same time so funny.

I’ve listened to this audiobook twice already and this week I’m listening to it again and thought you would enjoy it too.

If you wanna listen to it you’ll get this as your first book for free and you won’t need a credit card if it is your first time accepting an Audible book from a friend.

Just go here: http://a.co/c8QxbRn

After you accept the book, you will be prompted to download the Audible app to start listening.

Enjoy!

A shocking fact I learned recently – It’s about Google Photos App/Service from Google. I use this cloud based photo service everyday to share my photos with family and friends assuming that the photos which we stare with certain people are completely private. But I learned very recently that It’s not the case, any photo which you share as an album are created with a public link, if someone has that public link, they can see you pictures without any login or authorisation in Google without you giving them access. It’s scary and it’s something which broke my trust in some ways with Google. I discussed this matter on Google’s Photos related forums online but I was amazed to see many people didn’t know this and were shocked too. But Google is not doing anything about it right now, probably because it is not there priority right now. I think it should be their first priority to fix privacy of their proprietary software/app. Just imagine a hacker searching the Public URLs of our Google Photos app somehow finds one actual link and is able to access our photos without us knowing. That will be a nightmare.
I’m searching for an alternative to this app right now and I couldn’t find any as of yet. But hopefully Google fixes it, otherwise we all will have to eventually remove our photos from Google’s cloud servers and delete this app.

Why You Need a “Deloading” Phase in Life – This article from Tim Ferriss is like having a detox Tea after a long day, when you sip it and it relieves the stress of the day. App of the week –

Disk Drill

This is a data recovery app, recently due to power failure one of my external harddrive stopped showing one of my backup folders which contained all the backups of my devices. Loosing it would have been a big crisis. While searching for a data recovery tool, I found Disk Drill app for Mac. I Installed it and it started showing all the deleted data which I could recover, from the day one of the drive. If you are in that kind of situation, try it once it will just blow your mind.

It’s available both for Windows and Mac on their website.

Book I’m re-listening  —

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – I’m listening to this book for the second time on Audible. It’s one of the very good fiction books I have ever read, apart from the story and characters, Neil Gaiman who has written this book has also narrated this book in his own voice, does a mind-blowing job. He takes you to a completely different world the of the dead, the ghouls and the witches which is not actually spooky. If you want to get away from your world and problems for sometime, listen to this book while driving car or commuting to work, this book will be worth you time.

How Tim Ferriss Survived Suicidal Depression and His Tools for Warding Off the Darkness – This article is a story of one of my favorite writers where he tells about his story of dark days when he almost committed suicide and how an incident helped him out to get out of that zone and the tools he used to stay away from that zone.

An intimate story, I think every person should read who is going through difficult times. It teaches a great lesson. To quote Tim in a very powerful sentence – “Killing yourself is like taking your pain, multiplying it by 10, and giving it to the ones who love you.”
